On the first night of Hanukkah, Jacob Stern and his family are visited by a mysterious stranger who leaves behind a golden dreidl as a gift.  Late that night, with a magical spin of the dreidl, a girl named Sarah appears and takes Jacob on an extraordinary adventure to Latkaland.

Join the children as they draw on their wits, bravery and the lessons of history to overcome the fearsome obstacles they encounter in this marvelous tale, inspired by the story of the Maccabees.

Praise for Latkaland:

“…wonderful reading for young children, with just enough suspense to keep them interested.” -Jewish Book World

“A fast-paced fantasy plot and an easy chapter format will appeal to children who have outgrown picture book stories about the evil spirits who make trouble during Hanukkah, such as Kimmel’s Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins…”                                                                                                                                                                                          -Association of Jewish Libraries

“Thank you, Karen Fisman, for a rollicking adventure with enough thrills to last all eight days of Hanukkah.”  -Eric Kimmel

“Latkaland is a humorous romp into a fantasy world…This tightly-knit, imaginative story is sure to engage young Jewish readers (and their parents) the world over.”
-Anne Dublin, award-winning author and teacher-librarian

“How do you take a familiar Jewish holiday tale and update it for today’s children?  Karen Fisman has done just that with her delightful tale, An Adventure in Latkaland…A wonderful addition to any school library.”
-Rochelle Chester, Head Librarian, Leo Baeck Day School, Toronto
